Microsoft: Streaming Office 'infringes license'
Microsoft has said that the Internet service provider Fasthosts, which has started offering a subscription-based version of Microsoft Office 2007, is infringing on the software giant's licence regulations--but Fasthosts has denied this claim. Earlier this week, the U.K.-based ISP and hosting company started selling a version of Microsoft Office which it advertised as being "streamed to your PC". However, unlike true hosted software, or software as a service (SaaS), it requires the user to download software to their client PC. "Fasthosts' Microsoft Office product uses the SaaS model in that it is delivered and managed via the Internet," explained Mark Jeffries, Fasthosts' chief technology officer, on Thursday. Speaking with CNET News.com sister site ZDNet UK via e-mail, Jeffries said that a "full version Microsoft Office, identical to the boxed product, is downloaded using a streaming service and saved locally on a user's PC." "After one initial download, further small downloads are made for additional features and updates.
Legend Buddy Guy still has the blues
The one-day festival will play host to some impressive national and international names in blues, reggae, funk, roots, pop and swamp rock. Alongside Guy, KT Tunstall, Keb Mo, Wilco, Ian Brown, Midge Marsden, Hollie Smith, Pluto, Little Bushman and The Checks are all set to perform. While the line-up is an impressive range of talent, it cannot match Guy's musical legacy. There will be singing, preaching and "lunch on the grounds." Sunday school will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. with the singing to begin at 10:30 a.m. and preaching will follow. The church will furnish the meat for the lunch, and you are asked to please bring a covered dish. A love offering will be taken. It's been a roller coaster year for Greg Minnaar. The South African downhiller opened the season riding his country's Absa Cape Epic as a celebrity participant in the mixed team category (he finished fourth). Minnaar then spent the 2007 World Cup season nipping at the heels of reigning world champ Sam Hill. But a badly timed shoulder dislocation suffered while training in France, Germany derailed his campaign. Seemingly recovered, Minnaar looked to be capable of dethroning Hill at the World Cup round at Mont-Ste-Anne, Quebec, and at the world championships in Fort William, Scotland. But in both races Minnaar's shoulder painfully popped out of the socket midway through the run, forcing the South African to cool his jets. In Fort William, Minnaar hit the deck after his shoulder dislocated, breaking his shoulder blade.
West Coast Conference Tournament Preview
Omar Samhan is a beast down low at both ends of the floor. The Gaels have a lot of offensive options. Contender: If Gonzaga or St. Mary's don't reach the final, San Diego is the team most likely to dethrone them. The Toreros have won 10 of their last 12 games, and their three losses in WCC play were all to the Bulldogs or Gaels. One more thing: the conference tournament is San Diego, which immediately gives the Toreros an advantage. Brandon Johnson is one of the best guards in the conference, and Gyno Pomare is a very good scorer and rebounder down low.Sleeper: Considering no one outside of the aforementioned three finished above .500, the pickings are slim for a legitimate sleeper. However, Santa Clara could potentially be a threat. The Broncos lost four of their last six games, but they have one of the best big men in the country in John Bryant.
