Music festival finds tiny Rothbury on the map

From Woodstock, N.Y., to Indio, Calif., rock-and-roll has a long tradition of turning sleepy, out-of-the way locales into rock meccas.

Next in line could be tiny Rothbury,Michigan, which is set to host a massive rock festival over the July 4 weekend.

More than 70 artists and bands -- including the Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, John Mayer, 311, Modest Mouse, Snoop Dogg and Primus -- will play Rothbury, a four-day rock festival July 3-6 at the Double JJ Ranch & Golf Resort. The town of Rothbury -- which at last count had a population of less than 500 -- lies about six miles inland from Lake Michigan and about 24 miles north of Muskegon.

Concert promoters and Grant Township officials finalized festival plans late Tuesday.

The Visionary

As I said, it is differentbut we will have advertising campaigns, TV commercials, people talking on TV to explain our program. We will use modern methods for campaign. I do not want to call them western, they are international [methods].

Do you think the National Front for Change represents a real threat to the NDP in the parliamentary race? This is an internal issue for opposition parties whether to run individually or form a coalition. It is up to them. This is not going to affect or change any of our plans. As I said we are taking these elections seriously and we are going to work very hard to win every seat. I do not really have to comment on what they [opposition parties] are doing. I will be happy to see more opposition members in the parliament and I will be happier to see the NDP maintaining a majority in parliament.

NASA Views Landing Site Through Eyes of Future Moon Crew

NASA has obtained the highest resolution terrain mapping to date of the moon's rugged south polar region, with a resolution to 20 meters per pixel. Scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., collected the data using the facility's Goldstone Solar System Radar located in California's Mojave Desert. The imagery generated by the data has been incorporated into animation depicting the descent to the lunar surface of a future human lunar lander and a flyover of Shackleton Crater.

The mapping data collected indicate that the region of the moon's south pole near Shackleton Crater is much more rugged than previously understood. The Shackleton rim area is considered a candidate landing site for a future human mission to the moon.

"The south pole of the moon certainly would be a beautiful place to explore," said Doug Cooke, deputy associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters, Washington.

Dion hints Liberals willing to let budget stand

Care to try and make your point without attacking his english (which is as good or better than Harper's french, IMO), his heritage, his physique, or other superficial and irrelevant things?

Can you do it?

Didn't think so.

Don't feel too bad....neither can the CPC. Their attack ads are all sizzle and no steak. And pathetic, to boot.

That's why your hero's party is basically in a tie with Dion's in the polls.

That's why Harper will never get his majority.

Thank goodness. Posted 19/02/08 at 1:52 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

Analysis: Nabucco gets boost

The company that's building the pipeline applied for exemption from the general rule of regulated third-party access in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, though which the pipeline would pass. EU laws permit such exemptions.

"The safeguards to which the exemption is subject include a capacity cap preventing a dominant undertaking from booking more than half of the Nabucco exit capacity in Austria and rules to ensure a transparent and non-discriminatory capacity allocation to third parties," the EC said in a statement.

This is the latest good news for the pipeline, which announced last week that German utility RWE would join the project.

"Nabucco clearly has strong political support but it's been missing a heavyweight downstream component and it has that in RWE," Simon Blakey, a senior director at Cambridge Energy Research Associates, told United Press International in a telephone interview last week.

Liberal Name Caller Behar Denounces Conservative 'Name Calling'

She briefly had a morning radio show on New York's WABC Talk Radio. She was supposed to compete with Imus' radio show.

The few times I heard her, she was complaining about her treatment at the radio station, how she speaks up for her rights, or how men are such brutes.

Boring stuff.

US district court judge orders shutdown of whistleblower web site

In an extraordinary act of censorship, lawyers representing the Swiss bank Julius Baer (BJB) obtained an injunction against the Dynadot corporation, US domain name registrar for the Wikileaks web site.

Judge Jeffrey White of the Federal District Court in San Francisco issued the injunction February 15 in a lawsuit BJB filed against Wilikeaks and Dynadot. The suit was filed after Wikileaks posted documents allegedly revealing fraudulent activities, including asset-hiding, money laundering and tax evasion schemes, on the part of the bank’s Cayman Islands branch. BJB claims the documents were stolen and contain customer information protected from disclosure under privacy laws.

The website of BJB promotes the bank as “the leading dedicated wealth manager in Switzerland,” concentrating on “private banking and asset management for private and institutional clients.”

Under the terms of the injunction, Dynadot may not release the registered wikileaks.org domain name, meaning that the Wikileaks web site cannot be reached through the related web address, www.wikileaks.org.
