| Interest rates - the blame game
I'm a tie-to-the-belt-buckle guy so I found this strange and concerning: if they're being flippant with their ties, what else are they being flippant with? This sartorial fun was just after the severe early 1990s recession, when the Reserve Bank got it wrong. Unfortunately, it's still getting it wrong. Australians should blame the RBA for rising interest rates - with another one expected tomorrow - not just the former Coalition government. For too long, Australians have looked to the RBA to solve economic problems. But there hasn't been enough focus on the fact that our central bank is likely to have inflamed the problems. Our central bank projects an aura of omnipotence. But like any other government organisation it is fallible - and arguably flawed.

Rich Hofmann: There will be a lot to digest in Clemens steroids ...
I WAS GOING TO HAVE a Roger Clemens Hearing Party but didn't know what to serve. The other sports are so much easier. Super Bowl parties all have a hollowed-out loaf of bread, kind of shaped like a football, with some dipping glop poured inside. If you have people over to watch a fight on pay-per-view, it's pretty much chips right out of the bag. But what do you do with this? And can you drink at 10 o'clock on a Wednesday morning? Or, rather, can you not drink and get through it? So many questions. Like, can ESPN's Chris Berman find a way to keep himself off of Deadspin for 5 minutes and come up with a few nicknames on the pregame show? Like, say, Henry "Turtle" Waxman? If I were a member of the committee, one of the esteemed honorables who had the good fortune to be assigned to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform - screw that Foreign Affairs or Ways and Means stuff - I would be torn about my appearance.

Ozzie didn't talk specifics about any of the plumbing that makes it possible. But David Treadwell, Corporate Vice president of Live Platform Services, with whom I had a chance to meet at the conference this week, shed some light on what Microsoft is building to enable all the fancy "entertainment mesh" and "connected productivity" scenarios that Microsoft is promising to provide in the coming years.
